Connect your agent

Check your dependencies every time Claude Code starts.

Three steps, about a minute. No account, no key: Claude sends package names, never versions, and compares the answer with your lockfile.

  1. 01

    Add the MCP server

    In a terminal. Claude Code gets Patchwire's five read-only tools.

    terminal
    claude mcp add --transport http patchwire https://patchwire.monowire.dev/mcp
  2. 02

    Ask Claude for the hook

    Paste this in Claude Code, in your project. It adds one hook to .claude/settings.json and changes nothing else.

    claude code
    Add a SessionStart hook (matcher startup) to .claude/settings.json that reminds you to check the dependencies in package.json with Patchwire get_advisories. Change nothing else.

    Or add it yourself. The hook only prints a line for Claude to read: no script, nothing downloaded.

    .claude/settings.json
    {
      "hooks": {
        "SessionStart": [
          {
            "matcher": "startup",
            "hooks": [
              {
                "type": "command",
                "command": "echo 'This project checks its dependencies with the patchwire MCP server when a session starts: get_advisories with the dependency names from package.json, then a short report of the packages whose installed version is in a returned range.'"
              }
            ]
          }
        ]
      }
    }

    Start a new session

    Run claude and send your first message. Before it answers, Claude checks the packages in package.json against Patchwire and tells you which ones to upgrade, and to which version.

Cursor. Set up in a minute.

One click adds the server, then a project rule: the agent checks before it installs, upgrades or ships.
